Catching up

We started planning almost immediately. We decided to have the wedding in Edwardsville since this is where we met, go to church, and also that way everyone has to travel a little bit.  Even Cody and I!

On June 17, 2011 our 'destination' wedding ceremony will be held at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Edwardsville.  This is the church Cody attended throughout college, and where I now attend.  See the photo of us in the title bar up there? That would be us rocking out at Bonifest this summer and you can see the gorgeous church in the background.  Oh you want a better picture? Well ok if you insist....

The reception will be just down the road from the church in Maryville at the Villa Marie Winery. It is a great location, beautiful, and so far they have been great to work with!
We also booked our photographer Derek of Love and Life Photography out of St. Louis. We chose our bridal party and colors, plum and clover!  I'm currently looking into bakeries and florists to finish off the big items.  Oh and my dress?  First item that was checked off the list!  I'm not going to post the dress I chose but here is one I tried on.
NOT 'the' dress!
Stay tuned for some adventures in DIY projects!

Saying "Yes!"

I'm sure most have already heard the story, but it seems weird to post about planning without talking about the actual proposal. Sorry, it's a little long!
May 14th was Cody's Air Force commissioning ceremony.  I saw him that morning and he was kinda quiet but I didn't think anything of it.  I didn't see him again until his parents, brother and I got to the ceremony.  At some point during the ceremony I noticed that Cody was sitting out of alphabetical order and would be last to go on stage.  I thought he was probably helping with the technical aspects of the power point.  After he took his oath and signed his orders his parents and I were to pin on his rank.  As we went on stage the announcer said "and now Cody's parents and fiance will pin him on." umm ok, really?  He can't go around calling me that when I'm not, we are going to have to chat about that after this is over.  Since we were on stage though I just didn't think about it and focused on pinning his rank bar on his hat.  He then pinned parent pins on his parents, and then turned to me and said "I have something for you too" bent down on one knee and asked me to marry him...although I don't actually remember him saying that, I think the ring distracted me!  I know I said yes, and his mom told me I said it really quickly!  Cody later told me he didn't plan much after that and ended up just sort of trying to hand me the box until I said "um no you actually have to put that on!"  I think the audience clapped, and we went back to our seats and finished the ceremony.

Afterward we had so many people coming up to congratulate us, one lady was even tearing up! So sweet! Apparently the entire Air Force ROTC class and officials were in on the plan and were just as excited as we were.  We celebrated by calling as many family as possible on the way to one of our favorite restaurants Favazza's and Ted Drewes Frozen Custard!

Cody's brother, Todd, was there to take all of our great photos!

Starting out

Ever since I went off to college I've thought about joining the blogging world.  I even started once.  Yes, just once, before I felt weird blogging about just myself.  With some encouragement from Milissa, I decided I would try it out once I was engaged, married, or had kids.  I mentioned it to my fiance, Cody, who loved the idea and set up a website for us. The site is great but not Kate friendly.  To update or post anything to the site I have to email Cody what I want, hope it translates, and wait for him to have time to make the changes. I'm sure you can see where this is going....when I think about blogging I place it in two categories "I'll do it later" or "[The topic] is not that important to make such an effort". So until we are married and I have frequent access to a mac and a live in website tutor, I'll be testing out my blogger abilities here.  Bear with me as I figure this all out and stay tuned for our adventures in wedding planning and married life!
